Finn and I are so excited that you are interested in joining us for Animal Assisted Therapy!
What is Animal Assisted Therapy (AAT)?
Animal Assisted Therapy is a medium of therapy in which a professional therapist partners with a certified animal to provide therapeutic services. In mypractice, Finn will be joining us in our work towards your goals.
Animal-Assisted Therapy (ATT) is a type of therapy that integrates an animal into a therapeutic treatment process. In this case you will be working with Pamela Meaney-Pieroway PhD, CCC and Finn, a 55 lb mini Bernadoodle.
Some potential benefits of AAT:
• Emotion recognition/regulation
• Reduction of anxiety symptoms/stress
• Decrease depressive symptoms
• Ability to address grief/loss issues
• Reduction of blood pressure
• Self-esteem enhancement
• Improve ability to trust
About Finn:
Finn has been trained and screened to offer Animal Assisted Therapy. He is in good health, neutered, fully vaccinated, and regularly groomed.
Rules Related to AAT:
• Finn has individual rights, just as each client does. Therefore, he is allowed to determine when he participates with others. While it may be planned to have Finn in session, he will never be forced to do so.
• Finn should always be treated gently. He should never be hit, have his ears pulled, carried, or treated in any other way that is uncomfortable.
• Finn will always need his handler present in any therapeutic situation.
• If Finn becomes irritated, scared, or act in a negative manner, the handler will put the animal in a safe place. No other person should touch him at these times.
